A homecoming defeat for the Westminster Blue Jays sums up their 24-14 loss against the Martin Luther College Knights. The Knights offense came out swinging, but there was nothing to show for it after a strong defensive stop in the red zone by the Blue Jays defense.

After being forced to a quick 3 and out, momentum shifted giving the Knights a prime chance to put points on the board. With a heavy use of ground plays, the Knights did indeed capitalize. Running back, Joshuah Kren, found a hole up front and sped past the Blue Jays defense for the first touchdown of the game.

Shortly after, Wyatt Ellis and the Blue Jays offense marched down the field. After a long 91 yard drive, Ellis connected with Travion Mosby to tie the game back up.

Celebrations were cut short though after one play and one score from the Knights. Kren once again bulldozed his way through the defense, accounting for a 79 yard touchdown and giving the Knights the lead back.

As time ran out in the first half, Wyatt Ellis and Travion Mosby connected once more for a 28 yard touchdown. After two hard fought quarters, the teams were all tied up at 14.

Coming out for the second half, both teams played well defensively. It wasn’t until the final minutes of the third quarter that quarterback Ethan Aguilar heaved up a 12 yard pass to Micah Jarvis, giving the Knights the lead once more.

Things at Kent Mueller stadium slowed down for the remainder of the game. The Blue Jays had a few more chances to score, but fell just short. The Knights went on to win by a final of 24-14, moving them to 5-1, 4-0 in conference. The hard fought loss, drops the Blue Jay’s to 2-5 on the year and 2-3 in the UMAC conference.

Looking forward to next week, the Blue Jay’s will travel to Minnesota and take on the University of Minnesota-Morris in hopes to bounce back and collect another conference win.
