For the Fall of 2019, the Remely’s Women’s Center is celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Women at Westminster College. The Center has brought many activities to our campus such as bringing motivational speaker Katie Hoff, an Olympic gold medalist who talked about her experience being a female athlete and what it means to be a relentless leader in pursuit of goals.

The Remely Center also held a note writing campaign, interns stationed throughout campus to encourage others to write thank you notes to the women in our community.  They collected over 80 thank you cards that will be distributed to students, faculty and staff this coming week. These activities continued through the month of November when Remley Women’s Advocates created a new social media campaign known as #thankaWOW.  Director of the First Year Experience, Kali Wright Smith as been a big part of planning the 40th celebration,

“We were so excited to begin our celebration of 40 Years of Women at Westminster College with the #thankaWOW campaign. It was great to see students, faculty, and staff come together to recognize and share appreciation for all of the great things that women bring to our campus. Seeing the notes of gratitude and social media posts was a really lovely demonstration of how much we, as a community, value the women of Westminster”.

The #thankaWOW campaign gives members of our campus a chance to show gratitude and thank the women of Westminster including students, faculty and staff, and alumni. Senior and Remely Intern, Missy Rolseth, saw this movement putting a spotlight those who might not always be recognized,

“The Thank a WOW campaign was a successful way for Westminster to express their gratitude for the work of women in student, faculty, and staff roles. We are celebrating 40 years of women on campus and Remley is looking for ways to highlight the efforts of women, especially for those who it often goes unnoticed.”

Many posts were shared on social media using this hashtag. It really showed our community what great things these women have offered and how much they greatly influence those around them.

40th Anniversary of Women at Westminster College called attention to many women on our campus and feelings of gratitude that we might not show everyday.
