Revived Spirit Organization Approved as Club in Student Government Meeting

Student Government Association senators voted in favor of granting club status to the spirit organization  Blue Crew during the most recent SGA meeting. A previous version of Blue Crew folded a few years ago, but a trio of sophomores – Michael Cermak, Lydia Creech and Cristian Hurtado – have been working to revive it. After drafting a new constitution earlier in the semester, they saw their group gain club status on Tuesday.

Campus Community Celebrates International Women’s Day

Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday, an event was held at the Columns where people of any gender could come to celebrate women. Everyone in attendance wore something red, as people across the country were encouraged to wear red in support of the cause. Sidewalk chalk was available for people to write quotes or draw pictures, and there was a microphone available to anyone who wanted to share a story, poem or experience.

Akande Invites Students to Go Back to Their High Schools in Hopes of Reaching Enrollment ‘Sweet Spot’

Westminster President Dr. Benjamin Akande held a town hall meeting in the Marsh-Jones Dining Room Tuesday morning, to engage students in “revitalizing” the college. Akande devoted the bulk of the meeting to presenting “Going Back to Your High School Day,” an April 7 event in which Westminster students can visit their high schools and discuss the “honest perspective about college life.” He said that he invites students to share experiences and advice related to athletics, challenges in the classroom, study habits and things to do for fun.

As Tornadoes Miss Westminster, Campus Reacts to Severe Storm

Severe storms in mid-Missouri caused a campuswide power outage that resulted in loss of Internet access for Westminster students and faculty late Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Across Fifth Street, a large fireball rose up near the Fulton Medical Center a few hours before the storm. Ash, smoke and debris blew across the road adjacent to the hospital.  Read more

Students Compete for $500 Prize at Annual Talent Show

The annual Westminster Talent Show drew a crowd of more than 150 guests as nine student acts competed for the top spots to win $500, $300 or $100 of prize money. The event was hosted by the Campus Activities Board and featured a new twist to the night of spectacular performances.

Westminster’s men’s and women’s lacrosse teams traveled to Kansas to take on the University of St. Mary Spires Thursday evening, followed by the Ottawa University Braves Saturday afternoon. Both the men and women lost their two games, and are now 0-4 in their inaugural seasons.
